Job Description
GEI is seeking individuals aligned with our culture to join our growing and industry-leading coastal engineering design group. Our coastal resiliency and coastal engineering design group is seeking a Civil or Geotechnical Engineer in our Lansing, MI office. This role is an opportunity to partner with senior technical experts to drive solutions for our State Parks, local government and private clients seeking resolution to shoreline erosion issues along Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake Huron and Lake Erie shorelines. You will work on a variety of projects including waterfront parks, living shorelines, coastal revetment/retaining walls and coastal resiliency and storm-hardening projects.
Essential Responsibilities & Duties
- Candidates will support senior staff on a variety of engineering projects, mainly focused on shoreline structures and nature-based solutions but would also have the opportunity to be involved with water resources projects and civil engineering projects related to relocation or remediation of assets damaged or at-risk along shorelines.
- Also, may include design support for other heavy civil/geotechnical projects, reinforced concrete structure design, preparing construction drawings and specifications, construction cost estimating, design implementation and report preparation.
- Support evaluation and design efforts as part of a team by performing civil engineering modeling, analysis, and design calculations.
- Prepare design drawings using computer aided design and drafting equipment.
- Prepare technical memos, reports, construction specifications and other written documentation.
- Prepare cost estimates, schedules and construction documents, monitor construction activities in the field.
- Work out of office on field assignments up to 50% of the time. Potential work on out of area temporary assignments.
- Assisting with proposals and business development activities.
- Up to of 50% field time expected with project durations of up to 2-3 weeks at a time.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering. Coursework including coastal engineering, sediment transport, wave runup analysis, slope stability analysis preferred but not required. M.S. in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering preferred but not required.
- Internship or Co-Op experience strongly preferred.
- EIT Certification strongly preferred but not required.
- Self-motivated with ability to work independently and collaboratively as a team member.
- Proficient with MS Office, GIS, and AutoCAD. AutoCAD Civil 3D experience strongly preferred.
- Willing to perform field work as required.
- Must have a valid driver's license and be willing to work in the field as needed.
